The singer is signed to the D’Prince’s Jonzing World, a subsidiary of MAVIN RECORDS. Family Background Rema was born into a Christian family in Benin City, Edo State, where he grew up before he relocated to Lagos to pursue his professional music career. The singer lost his father at age 8 and his elder brother at the age 17. The singer was left to take care of his mom. Education Rema completed both his primary and secondary school education in Edo State, Nigeria. He obtained both his First School Leaving Certificate and West African Senior School Certificate. Early Career Rema grew up singing and rapping while in secondary school. In 2013, Rema and his friend Alpha P formed a group called RnA. The group’s name is a combination of the first letters of their stage names. The duo won season 2 of Pikolo’s Dream Alive talent show. Shortly afterward, they signed a record deal with Peak Entertainment shortly. Under the label, RnnA released their debut single “Mercy”, directed by Whyte House Pictures. The mid-tempo song was recorded at Dream Alive Studio in Benin City. The group gained minor exposure following their performance at the Glo Slide and Bounce concert series in Benin and Lagos. In 2019, Rema signed a record deal with D’Prince’s Jonzing World, a subsidiary of Mavin Records. He released his debut EP Rema in 2019.
