If you had Lagos or probably Kano in mind, then you're definitely wrong. According to Forbes 2017 report, Nnewi in Anambra state is the city with the highest number of billionaires in Nigeria. She might not be as humongous and populated as Lagos or Kano but she boasts of an enviable and impressive fleet of eminent personalities.
Nnewi dubbed as the Japan of Africa is the second largest city in Anambra state. She is referred to as the Japan of Africa because of her numerous industries and factories that churn out wholly or partly manufactured products and machineries. A number of products such as spare parts of motor vehicles motorcycles, tyres, tiles, batteries, chemicals and cables are being manufactured or assembled in Nnewi thus making her a leading transport hub in the country Nkwo Nnewi located at the heart of Nnewi city is reputed to be the largest spare parts markets in Nigeria.
The first ever billionaire to emerge from Nigeria was reported to be from Nnewi. He was Mr Louis Odumegwu Ojukeu, the father of the deceased Biafran leader, Gen Ikemba Odumegwu Ojukwu. He was so affluent that during the Queen's visit to Nigeria in 1956, she was chauffeured round in his Rolls Royce, apparently the only one in Nigeria then When he died in 19956, he was estimated to be worth about $4 million dollars in our in today's economic value.
